School Arts Program 2011 - 2012 - COMING SOON!

Here's what we accomplished last year - check back here to see what we're planning for the 2011/12 school year!

The following programs were funded through appropriations from the Sweet Apple PTA.

Wendy Bennett “AlphabetSoup”
Ms.Bennett performed for Kindergarten students on November 22, 2011.

Stir up some fun and hook pre-readers with this delectable program starring theentire alphabet, with special appearances by letters Y, W, A, P and F! Youngchildren learn their ABC’s by singing them. With Wendy, they’ll learn not justthe names of the letters, but the sounds they make. Students will yodel, crow,sing and wiggle to snappy tunes like “Family Under One Sky,” “The Yodel Song,”“Wishy Washy Washer Woman” and “A Alligators All Around.” Dig into thisjam-packed, literacy-building songfest and you’re sure to reach for the lettersW-O-W.

Sean Driscoll “The Wandof Dreams”
Sean Driscoll performed for 1st and 2nd Grade students onJanuary 7, 2011.

The land of “Happily Ever After” is in big trouble. The Wand Of Dreams has beenstolen and everything is falling apart! Fairy Godmother or Godfather and theaudience have to round up the usual suspects to solve the mystery. Each suspectoffers an interesting mathematical problem to solve as the mystery unfolds.You’ll meet a Magic Mirror with a messy cold, a Dirty Rat with some prettyshady friends, a Troll that has traffic backed up for hours, a narcolepticSheriff that can’t stay awake long enough to figure anything out, Five LittlePiggies with some really big problems, and a Dragon that loves bacon! The showcombines hilarious puppets, beautiful animation, spellbinding magic, wonderfulmusic with tremendous audience interaction. The set has big screen animation,lots of magical props and musical instruments.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre “And Then They Came ForMe”
GeorgiaEnsemble Theatre will perform for 5th Grade on March 14, 2011.
The Georgia Ensemble Theatre presents James Still’s powerful, award-winning playthat dramatizes the true and tragic story of Anne Frank, her boyfriend EdSilverberg, and Otto Frank’s stepdaughter, Eva Geiringer Schloss, during theNazi invasion of the Netherlands.

Eric Litwin “Tantalizing Tall Tales”
Mr. Litwin will perform for Kindergarten and 1st Gradeon April 15, 2011.

Mr. Litwin is a national award winning musician, storyteller, andauthor. In this program, students will hear a heaping helping of classic tall tales rootedin American folklore traditions. Through a combination of song and story, Mr.Litwin will encourage students to stretch their imagination.

Ron Anglin “F.I.G. Newton Workshop”
Mr.Anglin will lead workshops with 4th grade classes on May 6, 2011.

While students find juggling challenging and exciting, Ron knows it builds muscle memory whichhelps them grasp and retain complicated scientific concepts such as Newton’sthree laws of motion, air resistance and potential and kinetic energy. Studentsnot only will amaze their teachers with feats of coordination and balance,they’ll be able to explain the laws of physics behind them. Ron has usedmultiple modalities to reach students in his own classroom and hundreds ofothers. He’s convinced it’s the best way to teach and the best way for childrento learn.

Story teller Cathy Kaemmerlen “So You Want to Be a Hero?
Ms. Kaemmerlen will present “So You Want to Be a Hero?”,America’s Rip-Roaring Tall Tales” for 3rd Grade students in May.

In this program, the escapades of three ofAmerica’s greatest tall tale heroes get a fresh retelling from the viewpoint oftheir fictitious wives: Sally Ann Thunder Ann Crockett (wife of Davy Crockett,who tamed the hills of Tennessee), Fanny Feboldson (wife of Febold Feboldson, the inventing-est farmer to ever hit the Midwest) and Slue Foot Sue (wife ofPecos Bill, the Wild West’s greatest cowboy). There’s lots of rip-roaring funin this behind-the-scenes look at these larger-than-life figures whose strength,inventiveness and heart define America’s spirit.
